Chennai, July 20 (IANS) PMK president Dr Anbumani Ramadoss on Sunday reiterated his party’s commitment to achieving comprehensive social justice for all communities in Tamil Nadu, marking the foundation day of the Vanniyar Sangam.
He described the organisation’s formation as a landmark moment in the state’s social justice movement, and called upon people to renew their commitment to ensuring equitable opportunities for every section of society.
In a statement issued on the occasion, Anbumani extended his greetings to members of the Vanniyar community, workers and all those who have been striving for social justice.
He said the Vanniyar Sangam, founded by PMK founder Dr S. Ramadoss, was established with the objective of securing social justice for Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and minority communities across Tamil Nadu.
According to Anbumani, the organisation has played a significant role in advancing the debate on equitable representation and reservation policies in the state.
He said the day the Vanniyar Sangam was founded, it occupied a special place in Tamil Nadu’s social justice history because it brought renewed attention to the need for data-driven policies aimed at ensuring fair opportunities for all communities.
He recalled that Dr Ramadoss had advocated the caste-based population census in Tamil Nadu and sought reservation in education and government employment based on the population strength of each community.
Among the demands raised at the time were enhanced reservation benefits for the Vanniyar community, which he described as one of the state’s largest communities, as well as an increase in reservation for Scheduled Castes in proportion to their population.
He said these proposals formed the cornerstone of the movement’s campaign for equitable representation.
Anbumani noted that the demand for a caste census has now reached a crucial stage, with both the Union and state governments preparing to undertake caste-based population enumeration.
He described this development as the first major milestone in the movement’s long-standing campaign for social justice.
Stressing that the struggle is far from over, the PMK leader said the ultimate objective is to ensure complete social justice for every community in Tamil Nadu through fair representation and equal access to education and employment opportunities.
Calling upon supporters and the public to remain committed to the cause, Anbumani urged people to use the occasion of the Vanniyar Sangam’s foundation day to reaffirm their determination to work towards an inclusive society where every community receives justice in proportion to its needs and aspirations.
