Puducherry, Aug 7 (IANS) Puducherry Legislative Assembly’s Pro-tem Speaker A. Anbalagan said on Friday that the Budget for 2026-27 will be presented on August 24 — the day for reconvening the House whose first session was held in May.
Addressing reporters at the Puducherry Legislative Assembly complex, the Speaker added that on August 24 the proceedings will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan’s address.
He said the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, who holds the Finance portfolio, will present the budget for the year 2026–27 at 3 p.m.
Speaker Anbalagan noted that while the first meeting of the 16th Puducherry Legislative Assembly had taken place on May 20, the session had subsequently been adjourned.
He said arrangements have been made for the public to watch the Assembly proceedings live via the Assembly’s website, social media platforms and local television channels.
The Business Advisory Committee will meet to decide the duration of the session, he added.
Additionally, he said that Bills and other documents tabled in the House would be published on the Assembly’s website.
Lieutenant Governor Kailashnathan administered the oath of office and secrecy to N. Rangaswamy as the Chief Minister of Puducherry for a record fifth term on May 13 during a ceremony held at Lok Niwas.
Earlier this week, portfolios were allotted to six Ministers in Puducherry.
Chief Minister Rangasamy retained the key departments of Confidential and Cabinet Department; Planning and Finance; Personnel and Administrative Reforms; Cooperation; Revenue and Excise; General Administration; Health and Family Welfare; Hindu Religious Institutions; Wakf Board; Local Administration; Urban Basic Services; Transport; Science, Technology and Environment; Town and Country Planning; Information and Publicity; Fire Services and Other subjects which were not allocated to any other Ministers.
