Jaipur, Sep 1 (IANS) A day after filing his nomination for the Rajasthan Municipal Elections 2026, former Kishangarh Municipal Council councillor Rikhab Chand Reel passed away on Tuesday, reportedly after suffering a heart attack.
His unexpected demise has left his family, supporters and political associates in shock.
Reel had previously represented Ward No. 37 of the Kishangarh Municipal Council and was once again preparing to contest the 2026 civic elections. He was a familiar face in Kishangarh’s local politics.
During his tenure as councillor, he was associated with various public welfare initiatives and had built a strong connect with residents of the area. He had recently entered the electoral contest again and filed nomination papers as a BJP candidate as well as an Independent candidate, according to reports.
Following the filing of his nomination papers, Reel had been actively meeting supporters and discussing his election campaign and strategy. His sudden death just a day later has brought the election campaign in Ward No. 37 to an abrupt halt.
According to officials, Reel complained of severe chest pain in the morning. His condition deteriorated suddenly, and he reportedly died before he could be taken to hospital. Doctors who examined him reportedly attributed the death to a suspected heart attack. The exact medical cause of death, however, would depend on the official medical assessment.
News of his death spread rapidly across Kishangarh, triggering an outpouring of grief. Leaders from different political parties, local traders, social workers and supporters visited his residence to pay their respects.
His last rites are scheduled to be performed at the local cremation ground later in the day.
Reel’s death immediately after filing his nomination could have implications for the electoral process in Ward No. 37. The nomination scrutiny and withdrawal process is currently underway.
Any decision regarding the status of the constituency and the next steps following the death of a candidate will be taken by the Returning Officer and the Rajasthan State Election Commission in accordance with the applicable election rules.
The incident has added an unexpected and emotional turn to the ongoing civic election process in Kishangarh.
