Jaipur, Aug 31 (IANS) The Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) has announced candidates for 20 of the 60 wards of the Banswara Municipal Council, marking its first participation in the civic elections in the tribal‑dominated region.
Political parties have intensified preparations for the Rajasthan civic elections, with both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) releasing their first lists of councillor candidates for several municipal councils on Monday, the last day of filing nomination papers.
In Nagaur Municipal Council, the Congress has announced candidates for 49 of the 60 wards, while the BJP has released names for 46 wards. The Congress has denied a ticket to former Municipal Council Chairperson Mangilal Bhati from Ward No. 10 and instead fielded his nephew Praveen Solanki, son of former Chairperson Kriparam Solanki. The decision has set the stage for a potential uncle‑nephew contest in Ward No. 10, creating a new political flashpoint.
Both the BJP and Congress have announced their councillor candidates for the Dausa Municipal Council.
The BJP has also released candidate lists for the Beawar Municipal Council as well as four municipalities in Beawar district. For the Beawar Municipal Council, the party has announced candidates for 57 of 60 wards, with candidates for Ward Nos. 22, 32 and 59 yet to be announced. The BJP has released its candidate list for all 25 wards of the Salumbar Municipal Council.
Former councillor and former Leader of Opposition Prabhulal Jain had sought the party ticket from Ward No. 2. Still, the BJP selected Karan Singh Panwar, secretary of the Udaipur Rural district unit, as its candidate. Similarly, Mahesh Garg, a member of the city unit’s executive committee, had sought the ticket from Ward No. 13, but the party fielded Naresh Vaishnav instead. Upset over being denied the ticket, Garg has reportedly filed his nomination as an independent candidate.
The BJP has fielded Chanda Suthar, daughter‑in‑law of former Municipal Council Chairman Nandlal Suthar, from Ward No. 19. Former Udaipur Rural vice‑president Kailash Gandhi has been given the ticket from Ward No. 8.
The release of candidate lists has intensified political activity across Rajasthan, with several ticket aspirants now deciding whether to remain with their parties or contest as independents.
