Karur, July 10 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay received a rousing welcome from thousands of supporters as he travelled to Karur on Friday to attend a major public meeting organised by the TVK, with elaborate security arrangements put in place across the district.
The Chief Minister left his Neelangarai residence in Chennai in the morning and departed for Tiruchirappalli on a special flight. After landing at Tiruchirappalli Airport at approximately 10.20 a.m., he proceeded to Karur by road. Large crowds lined the route from Tiruchirappalli to Karur to greet the Chief Minister.
Supporters, including a large number of women and children, gathered along the roadside, waving party flags and cheering as his convoy passed. Many showered flowers on the Chief Minister’s vehicle, while others raised slogans welcoming him and expressing support for his government.
The enthusiastic reception resulted in heavy crowds at several locations along the route, prompting police to regulate traffic and maintain order to ensure the convoy moved safely.
The Chief Minister is scheduled to participate in a public meeting organised by the TVK in Karur, where he is expected to address party workers and the public. His visit also comes amid heightened public attention following recent developments in the district, making the event politically significant.
Authorities have mounted one of the largest security operations in the district in recent months for the Chief Minister’s visit. Around 6,500 police personnel have been deployed at key locations, including the public meeting venue, along the convoy route and at major intersections.
Security has also been strengthened at entry and exit points to Karur, with surveillance intensified through CCTV monitoring and vehicle checks. Police have implemented traffic diversions and crowd-control measures to prevent congestion and ensure public safety throughout the visit.
Meanwhile, the decision to deny media access to the Chief Minister’s programme has sparked discussion in political and media circles. The restrictions on journalists attending the event have drawn attention, with questions being raised over the reasons for limiting press access to a major public function attended by the Chief Minister.
The visit is expected to conclude after the public meeting and other scheduled engagements in Karur under tight security.
