New Delhi, July 20 (IANS) Innovator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk continues to receive medical care at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung Hospital, with his vital parameters remaining stable, according to the latest health bulletin issued by the hospital on Monday.
The bulletin stated that Wangchuk remains under continuous medical management and is being monitored by a multidisciplinary team of experts. Doctors said that his blood parameters continue to require close clinical observation.
The Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital said: “Sonam Wangchuk continues to receive comprehensive medical care at VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital. His vital parameters remain stable. Blood parameters continue to warrant close clinical observation. Mr. Wangchuk remains under continuous medical management and the close supervision of a multidisciplinary team of experts.”
The hospital further said that medical teams from VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS, New Delhi, have assessed his condition and recommended continued medical intervention and uninterrupted monitoring.
“Based on the clinical assessment of the treating teams from VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS, New Delhi, continued medical intervention and uninterrupted clinical monitoring remain necessary to ensure early detection and timely management of any potential complications.”
The bulletin added that Wangchuk is receiving all necessary medical care and that his condition is being closely monitored by specialists.
Earlier on Sunday, doctors had said that prolonged fasting can lead to systemic stress, affecting multiple organs and body functions. Therefore, Wangchuk’s treatment involves not only stabilising his immediate condition but also anticipating and managing possible complications arising from an extended fast.
The Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital assured that Wangchuk’s clinical condition is being monitored continuously, adding that sustained medical intervention and round-the-clock observation remain essential for his care.
Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike for over three weeks, was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital after being taken there by Delhi Police on July 18. His health condition has drawn widespread public attention, with supporters expressing concern and hoping for his recovery.
The hospital reiterated that his treatment is being carried out with the highest level of medical care and expertise, given the seriousness of his condition and the need for continuous vigilance.
