New Delhi, July 27 (IANS) NDA leaders on Monday welcomed the proposed anti-paper leak legislation, saying the Bill will introduce strict provisions to prevent examination malpractices and safeguard the future of students.
Leaders from the BJP and its allies said the recurring issue of paper leaks has become a serious national concern and requires strong legal action.
Bihar Minister Dilip Jaiswal also supported the proposed legislation, saying the government was committed to taking strong action against those involved in paper leaks.
“The government is sensitive, and the government is bringing a law in Parliament that includes a provision of 10 years’ imprisonment and a penalty of crores of rupees. The government’s intention is clear,” he said.
Targeting the Opposition, Jaiswal added, “The opposition is trying to run its political shop on this issue because those who have lost the trust of the people are now trying to disturb the peace and harmony of the country through such misleading statements.”
West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh said the government had already announced its intention to bring a law in Parliament and that the legislation is now set to be introduced.
“We had announced that we would introduce a law in the Lok Sabha, and now that law is about to be introduced,” he said.
Calling paper leaks a major challenge for both the Centre and states, Ghosh said, “This is a very serious problem in the country, both in the states and at the Centre, the recurring issue of paper leaks, which pushes the future of our students into darkness while allowing people to earn crores of rupees illegally. A law is being brought to permanently put an end to this menace.”
JD(U) National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad said the Union Cabinet’s approval of the draft Bill sends a clear message to those involved in examination fraud.
“The Union Cabinet’s approval of the draft Bill makes it absolutely clear that those involved in paper leak cases are about to face very difficult times. If they are found guilty, they could face a fine of up to Rs10 crore and 10 years of imprisonment,” he said.
BJP MP Medha Kulkarni said the proposed measures represent an important reform in examination policy.
“Good reforms are coming in the examination policy so that the problems of exam leaks never arise again and the young generation does not suffer. The provisions that have been made are very strict,” she said.
Kulkarni added that the Bill focuses on breaking organised networks involved in paper leaks and includes punitive provisions to ensure accountability.
The Centre’s proposed legislation aims to create a stronger framework to combat examination-related fraud, with provisions for stricter punishment, accountability, and faster action against offenders.
