Sydney, May 20 (Indian Abroad Newsdesk)
In a heartfelt initiative to foster connection and wellbeing among Indian students in Australia, the Consulate General of India in Sydney, in collaboration with the Australian Indian Sports, Educational and Cultural Society (AISECS) and the Sydney University Gastrodiplomacy Society, hosted a special evening titled ‘Care, Connect and Cuisine’ on May 17, 2025.
Held at the Consulate, the event served as a warm welcome for Indian students studying in Sydney, offering them an opportunity to interact with community leaders, fellow students, and support organisations. The initiative aimed to address the emotional and cultural needs of students living far from home by creating a space that celebrated identity, belonging, and wellbeing.
Dr. S. Janakiraman, Consul General of India in Sydney, emphasized the importance of student welfare and community engagement. He encouraged students to embrace opportunities for cultural exchange and to take full advantage of the resources available to them through the Indian community and local institutions.
The evening featured cultural performances, interactive discussions, and a rich spread of Indian cuisine — thoughtfully prepared to reflect the diversity of India’s regional flavours. The Gastrodiplomacy Society played a key role in using food as a means to bridge cultures and promote dialogue. Students expressed their appreciation for the event’s welcoming atmosphere.
The event concluded with informal conversations and new friendships, reinforcing the message that care and connection can go a long way in making students feel at home in a new country.
