Representatives of the Tamil Association of Queensland participated in a Community Leaders Roundtable with Assistant Minister for Immigration and Foreign Affairs and Trade, Matt Thistlethwaite MP, contributing to discussions on skilled migration and broader community priorities.
The roundtable, facilitated by the Department of Home Affairs, brought together multicultural leaders to share perspectives on migration pathways, workforce needs and issues affecting diverse communities across Queensland. Participants highlighted the importance of inclusive dialogue in shaping policies that support both economic growth and community wellbeing.
Tamil Association representatives said the engagement provided an opportunity to voice the concerns and aspirations of the Tamil community while strengthening collaboration with government stakeholders. Discussions focused on the role of skilled migration in addressing labour shortages, as well as the need for community support systems that assist new arrivals in settling successfully.
Organisers noted that such forums help foster partnerships between government agencies and multicultural organisations, enabling communities to play an active role in policy conversations. The association reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside officials and community partners to promote inclusive initiatives and strengthen social cohesion across the state.
