Sydney, Aug 14 (IANS) A teenager has been hospitalised with serious injuries following a stabbing north of Brisbane in the Australian state of Queensland on Thursday night.
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) said in a statement that officers were called to an altercation between two teenage boys outside a restaurant in Albany Creek, 15 km north of central Brisbane, at 8:15 pm (local time) on Thursday.
Officers arrived and found that a 16-year-old boy had sustained lacerations to his abdomen from a knife, Xinhua News Agency reported.
He was transported to hospital with serious injuries. Local media reported on Friday morning that he was in a life-threatening condition.
A second boy, aged 17, was arrested by police at the scene and was assisting with inquiries.
On August 4, police said that a teenager was arrested over a stabbing at a shopping centre north of Sydney that left the victim in a critical condition.
A police statement said that emergency services were called to the shopping centre 80 km north of Sydney around 3:45 pm on August 3 and arrived to find an 18-year-old man with a stab wound.
He was treated by ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.
Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident. A knife was subsequently seized from a nearby property before a 15-year-old boy was arrested on August 3.
He was taken to a local police station and charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
On August 1, a teenage boy was charged with murder over a fatal stabbing north of Sydney in the eastern Australian state of New South Wales (NSW).
The NSW Police Force said that the 15-year-old boy and a 45-year-old woman were arrested at a home on the state’s Central Coast, 75 km north of Sydney, following an investigation into the fatal stabbing of a 22-year-old man on July 28.
Emergency services were called to reports of the stabbing on the Central Coast and arrived to find the 22-year-old with stab wounds. He was treated by ambulance paramedics, but died in hospital.
The 15-year-old was charged by police with murder, and the 45-year-old woman was charged with hindering the apprehension of a person who committed a serious offence.
