Ghaziabad, July 29 (IANS) A tragic road accident occurred on Wednesday within the jurisdiction of the Niwari Police Station in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, claiming the lives of three people and leaving several others injured.
A pickup vehicle, carrying devotees to Haridwar for a pilgrimage and a holy dip in the Ganges, collided violently with a truck at around 12:30 a.m. Three occupants of the pickup died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries.
Upon receiving information about the accident, the Niwari Police immediately rushed to the scene and launched relief and rescue operations. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, where they received first aid and medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the pickup vehicle had been purchased recently. The occupants were reportedly travelling to Haridwar to perform a ritual ceremony for the new vehicle and take a holy dip in the Ganges when the accident happened.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bhaskar Verma said, “We received information around 12:30 a.m. that a pickup vehicle had collided with a truck. Three people lost their lives in the accident, while several others were injured. Police teams reached the spot immediately and shifted the injured to the hospital for treatment. Further legal action is being taken in the matter.”
He added that the truck has been impounded and its driver and conductor have been taken into custody. Necessary legal proceedings are currently underway.
In a separate incident on July 21, a truck loaded with iron rods, travelling from Dadri towards Ghaziabad, lost control and fell into a roadside ditch near Chhapraula in Greater Noida. The accident was so severe that the iron rods pierced through the truck’s cabin, trapping the driver inside.
After being alerted, the Badalpur Police reached the spot and initiated a rescue operation. A Hydra crane and gas cutters were used to extricate the driver, who remained trapped for nearly two hours. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but was later declared dead by doctors.
The deceased was identified as Aamir (28), a resident of Jehra village under the Kotwali Dehat Police Station area in Bulandshahr district.
