Agartala, July 31 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday said the state is witnessing rapid progress under the present Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, with initiatives spanning infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, technology and social welfare. He asserted that Tripura is now competing with India’s fastest-growing states.
Addressing a function at the Khowai Town Hall after inaugurating and laying foundation stones for several projects worth Rs 8.9 crore in Khowai district, Saha said the government is committed to ensuring that development reaches every village, household and citizen.
“The government is working with priority for overall development by focusing on road connectivity, drinking water, electricity, agriculture, rural and urban development, information technology and social security. Tripura is moving forward in terms of good governance and administrative reforms and is now competing with the fastest-developing states of the country,” he said.
The programme, organised by the Khowai district administration, saw the inauguration of seven projects implemented by the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, Rural Development Department, Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, Urban Development Department and other agencies. The Health and Family Welfare Department also distributed eight Smart OPD Kits.
Highlighting the role of technology in governance, Saha said the state is implementing initiatives in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of technology-driven development. He also launched a subsidised mortuary vehicle service to ease the financial burden on bereaved families, with charges fixed at Rs 1,000 per trip and Rs 500 for Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) beneficiaries. He added that families unable to pay would be assisted by the government.
Saha said projects worth Rs 8.9 crore inaugurated on Thursday would improve public services and create long-term assets. He noted that projects worth nearly Rs 1,500 crore were inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid across the state during the last financial year.
Referring to the Centre’s Act East Policy, he said Tripura is emerging as a gateway for development in the Northeast. Quoting PM Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,” he emphasised inclusive growth, saying marginalised sections must be developed for true progress.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, Saha said performance would remain the benchmark for governance. He claimed that Tripura’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has doubled according to 2025 statistics, while purchasing power has increased. Improvements in law and order and infrastructure, he said, have contributed to rapid socio-economic progress.
The event was attended by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, Khowai Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Singha Roy (Datta), MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, Khowai Municipal Council Chairperson Debashish Nath Sharma and other senior officials.
