‘Truly grateful for excellent work’: People of Venezuela thank India for treatment at Army field hospital

Caracas, July 1 (IANS) Describing the medical assistance provided by Indian medical professionals as “excellent”, people of Venezuela continue to express their gratitude to the Indian team at the Army field hospital for providing treatment to those affected by the devastating earthquake.

In a video shared by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), a woman who received treatment at the hospital established under ‘Operation Amistad’, said, “Indian friends, we are truly grateful for this excellent work that you are doing for us Venezuelans.”

The woman ended up getting emotional and expressed how the medical assistance provided by the Indian team is perfect.

“The care that you are providing here is excellent, standing with us in these difficult times. Truly excellent! Your attention and affection towards us is perfect. Thank you! May God be with you always. I am eternally grateful to you!”

In another video, a woman who received treatment at the Army Field Hospital spoke about the excellent care she has received at the facility.

The local resident thanked the Indian team at the Army Field Hospital and mentioned the excellent care received there while appreciating the service of medical specialists.

India launched ‘Operation Amistad’ to support Venezuela following devastating twin earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 on June 24 that claimed over 1,400 lives and caused widespread destruction across the country.

Another video showed locals sitting at the Army Field Hospital as the facility continued to deliver timely medical care.

The Indian Army has also shared a video of a 79-year-old woman, who was provided treatment at the field hospital, after being rescued from a collapsed building. The medical team stabilised her fracture and initiated advanced wound care before establishing daily follow-up treatment.

“Operation Amistad: A Lifeline Amidst the Rubble. The Indian Army Field Hospital continues to serve as a beacon of hope, delivering compassionate medical care to those affected,” Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) posted on X.

“For a 79-year-old survivor, rescued from the collapsed building marked only the beginning of her ordeal. Trapped beneath the debris with a fractured leg and suffering from peripheral arterial disease, delayed access to medical care led to a severe arterial ulcer and intense pain. The medical team stabilised her fracture, initiated advanced wound care and established daily follow-up treatment, providing not only specialised medical support but also renewed hope for recovery. India stands in solidarity with the people of Venezuela, reaffirming its commitment to humanitarian assistance,” it added.

The humanitarian assistance sent by India reached Venezuela on June 28. While announcing the development, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar expressed confidence that the Field Hospital Unit, relief supplies, medicines and medical equipment will bolster ongoing post-earthquake relief efforts in the country.

“Indian assistance reaches Venezuela. Confident that the Field Hospital Unit, relief supplies, medicines and medical equipment will bolster ongoing post-earthquake relief efforts in the country,” EAM Jaishankar had posted on X.

India has deployed specialised Indian Army medical contingent to earthquake-hit Venezuela.
