Hyderabad, July 26 (IANS) Two teenagers were killed and a third injured when a scooty they were riding was hit by a tipper lorry in the Kukatpally area of Hyderabad on Sunday.
According to police, the youths were on their way to play cricket when their scooty was hit by a tipper lorry.
The two teenagers died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Mahesh and Lakshmi Teja, both aged 17.
A third youth was injured in the mishap and was shifted to a nearby hospital.
The tipper lorry driver escaped after the accident. Police seized the lorry and launched a hunt for the absconding driver.
Police shifted the bodies of the deceased to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination.
A police officer of Kukatpally Police Station said they have registered a case and launched further investigation.
Meanwhile, a major fire broke out late Saturday night in Narketpally in Nalgonda district.
According to police, the fire broke out in a toy shop near Sri Parvathi Jadala Ramalingeshwara Swamy temple at Cheruvugattu.
The fire spread rapidly and engulfed the adjoining shops. Police and fire services personnel rushed to the spot and launched an operation to douse the flames. Three fire engines were deployed for firefighting.
Police said 17 toy shops and 15 pushcarts were damaged in the fire that broke out around midnight.
Eyewitnesses said two gas cylinders exploded in the fire, spreading panic in the area. The flames spread to the nearby Gram Panchayat office, damaging the files.
No loss of life was reported in the incident. However, local shopkeepers suffered huge losses. According to an initial estimate, the fire caused a loss of about Rs 2.5 crore.
Locals said there was no one in the shops, which averted a disaster.
The cause of the fire was not known. Police registered a case and took up an investigation to ascertain the cause.
