University of Queensland showcases mining research to Indian minister

Brisbane, September 13 (Indian Abroad Newsdesk)
The University of Queensland (UQ) welcomed India’s Minister of State (Independent
Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship for an in-depth visit to its
experimental mine site, where he observed innovative research and training initiatives in
the mining sector.

The visit featured an interactive tour of UQ’s mining research modules, followed by a
constructive meeting with Vice Chancellor and President Prof. Deborah Terry AC, Pro
Vice-Chancellor (Global Partnerships) Brett Lovegrove, and representatives from UQ’s
Sustainable Minerals Institute, Study Queensland, and UQ Skills.

Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in mining education and
sustainability, with a key proposal to establish a Centre for Excellence in Mining in India.
The exchange underlined the shared commitment of both countries to advance
innovation, resource sustainability, and skill development in this vital sector.
