Uttarakhand Cabinet orders statewide road repairs after monsoon, sets October review tour

Dehradun, Aug 25 (IANS) The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Tuesday directed the state government to prepare an effective and comprehensive plan for repairing roads across the state immediately after the monsoon season ends, officials said.

The Cabinet meeting was held at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

During the meeting, the condition of roads across the state and their improvement was discussed.

The officials discussed the need for extensive work to repair roads in municipal corporations, municipal councils, and town panchayats, as well as rural areas.

The Chief Minister said that an effective action plan should be developed to repair roads under various departments and institutions, including the Public Works Department and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

According to the officials, the meeting also discussed the provision of necessary funds by the state government to repair old roads constructed under the PMGSY, which have expired and are not receiving regular maintenance.

Chief Minister Dhami instructed that road improvement work should be undertaken simultaneously across the state on a war footing as soon as the monsoon season ends.

“To this end, the concerned departments should ensure necessary preparations now and complete the tender process on time, so that there is no delay in starting construction and repair work after the rains end,” the officials said.

The Cabinet also discussed providing necessary funds to local bodies to improve the condition of roads in urban areas.

The Chief Minister said that the necessary resources should be provided to municipal corporations, municipal councils, and town panchayats for road improvement, so that urban roads can also be repaired on a priority basis.

CM Dhami said that he would tour various regions of the state by road starting in October to ensure that the repair work has been carried out effectively.

He directed the concerned departments to develop a concrete action plan for road improvement in coordination with each other and work in a timely manner.

He said that all relevant departments must make coordinated efforts to improve and streamline the roads in urban and rural areas of the state.

The State Cabinet also discussed several other administrative and policy-related matters during the meeting.

Among the issues taken up was the promulgation of the Uttarakhand State Cooperative Policy, 2026, aimed at providing a framework for the cooperative sector in the state.

The State Cabinet also considered the Uttarakhand Medical Health and Family Welfare Statistical Cadre Group A, B and C Service Rules, 2026.

Other matters discussed included the Uttarakhand Prison Sub-Jailor Subordinate (Non-Gazetted) Service (Amendment) Rules, 2026, as well as the Uttarakhand Population Survey and Records Operation Rules, 2026.

The State Cabinet’s decision on road repairs comes as Uttarakhand’s road infrastructure faces increased pressure and damage during the monsoon period.
