Yoga Day 2025 celebrated with message of global unity

Canberra, June 21 (Indian Abroad Newsdesk)

The historic Old Parliament House in Canberra became a serene stage for global wellness on the morning of June 21, as the Indian High Commission hosted the International Day of Yoga 2025 under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”

Bringing together people from all walks of life, the event was marked by a strong sense of community, peace, and cultural pride. Among those in attendance were senior officials from Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), members of the Australian Defence Force, ambassadors and diplomats from various missions, and representatives from both Indian and Australian communities.

High Commissioner of India to Australia, Gopal Baglay, welcomed the diverse gathering and highlighted the global relevance of yoga in building healthier societies and a harmonious world.

Participants took part in a guided yoga session held on the lawns of the Old Parliament House, with yoga instructors leading traditional asanas, breathing techniques, and meditation. The program concluded with a moment of silent reflection and messages of goodwill exchanged among the attendees.

Officials and diplomats alike praised the initiative for its inclusiveness and universal message.

The annual celebration, endorsed by the United Nations and observed globally on June 21, is an initiative pioneered by India to promote physical, mental, and spiritual well-being through yoga. This year’s Canberra event reaffirmed Australia’s growing embrace of yoga as a unifying cultural and wellness practice.

The High Commission also thanked local Indian community organisations for their support and participation, underlining how such events help foster stronger people-to-people ties between India and Australia.

As the sun rose over the national capital, the message was clear: yoga’s timeless philosophy continues to unite people across cultures, affirming health, peace, and harmony for the Earth and all who inhabit it.
