Australia–India deepen cooperation on cyber, critical technologies

CANBERRA, SEPTEMBER 15/INDIAN ABROAD NEWSDESK

Australia and India have discussed ways to advance cooperation in cyber and critical technologies, including the implementation of their partnership covering cyber, emerging technologies and supply chains.

According to the High Commission of India in Canberra, Ministry of External Affairs Joint Secretary (Cyber Diplomacy) Amit Shukla held a meeting with Australia’s Ambassador for Cyber Affairs and Critical Technology Jessica Hunter during his visit to Canberra.

The High Commission said the two sides exchanged views on the continuing Australia–India partnership in cyber and critical technologies and discussed ideas for putting the India–Australia Partnership on Cyber, Critical Technologies and Supply Chains (PACTS) into practical operation.

The engagement comes as both countries seek to expand cooperation in areas of strategic technology, cybersecurity and resilient supply chains.

As part of his visit, Shukla also participated as a speaker in a panel on AI adoption across the Indo-Pacific at the TSD AI Masterclass, organised by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) in Canberra. ASPI’s programme for the September 14 event lists both Shukla and Hunter among the speakers and identifies the masterclass as part of the Sydney Dialogue’s work on critical, emerging and cyber technologies.

The masterclass examined issues including artificial intelligence adoption, regional capacity building, strategic partnerships, AI security and safety, and Australia’s role in the emerging AI supply chain, according to ASPI.

The discussions underline the growing importance of cyber, artificial intelligence, critical technologies and secure supply chains in the broader Australia–India strategic partnership.
