India’s High Commissioner to Australia, Nagesh Singh, met Dr Andrew Charlton, Australia’s Cabinet Secretary and Assistant Minister for Science, Technology and the Digital Economy, to discuss ways to strengthen the India–Australia partnership through greater cooperation in innovation, technology and economic engagement, according to the High Commission of India in Canberra.
The High Commission of India said the meeting focused on expanding collaboration in science, technology, innovation, economic cooperation and people-to-people ties, reflecting the broadening scope of the bilateral relationship under the India–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
According to the Australian Department of Industry, Science and Resources, Australia regards India as a key partner in advancing collaboration in emerging technologies, scientific research, digital innovation and commercialisation. The two countries have been expanding cooperation in areas including artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, critical minerals and advanced manufacturing.
Science and technology cooperation has become an important pillar of bilateral relations through initiatives such as the Australia–India Strategic Research Fund, which supports collaborative research between institutions in both countries. According to India’s Ministry of Science and Technology, recent discussions between the two governments have also identified opportunities to deepen collaboration in critical and emerging technologies, space research, researcher mobility and industry-led innovation.
The High Commission of India said the meeting underscored the shared commitment of India and Australia to deepen cooperation across innovation, technology and economic sectors while further strengthening the people-to-people links that continue to support the growing bilateral partnership.
