Australia and India have discussed expanding maritime defence cooperation and strengthening interoperability between their armed forces during a meeting between the chiefs of the two countries’ defence forces.
According to the High Commission of India in Canberra, India’s Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan met Admiral Mark Hammond, Chief of the Defence Force of Australia, in Canberra during Swaminathan’s visit to Australia.
The High Commission said the discussions focused on the growing strategic depth of the Australia–India defence partnership, implementation of the Maritime Security Cooperation Roadmap and opportunities to enhance interoperability and cooperation in the maritime domain.
The engagement also reflected a shared focus on converting the strategic convergence between the two countries into practical outcomes supporting a secure, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific, the High Commission said.
The meeting took place amid expanding maritime and defence engagement between Australia and India , including cooperation aimed at improving operational coordination and addressing shared security challenges across the Indo-Pacific.
