Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, recently visited Mumbai to observe the operations of the iconic Mumbai Dabbawala Association, highlighting growing interest in community-driven logistics solutions.
During the visit, the High Commissioner interacted with dabbawalas and witnessed their highly efficient sorting and delivery system, which ensures timely distribution of home-cooked meals across the city despite Mumbai’s complex urban commute. The dabbawala network has long been recognised globally for its precision and reliability.
Officials noted that the visit reflects Australia’s interest in understanding innovative, low-cost logistics models that can address modern urban challenges. There are plans to explore the potential application of similar community-led systems in Perth.
The engagement underscores strengthening people-to-people ties and knowledge exchange between India and Australia, particularly in areas of urban innovation and service delivery. It also highlights how traditional Indian models continue to inspire global interest for their efficiency and scalability.
