New Delhi, Sep 7 (IANS) Moti Nagar legislator and Delhi government spokesperson Harish Khurana on Monday accused the Opposition AAP and Congress party of indulging in politics over the tragic building collapse in Satya Niketan, which claimed seven lives.
In a video statement, Khurana said their priority after the incident was to rescue as many students from the site as possible, but the AAP and the Congress were more interested in a blame game.
Khurana reminded the AAP that when the party was in power in Delhi and in MCD, over 700 incidents of house collapse took place in 2023 and 2024.
He said over 50 lives were lost in these incidents, and still the AAP is trying to indulge in a blame game after the Satya Niketan incident.
Khurana said the Congress should also remember that when it was in power in the city and the Centre, a massive building collapse in east Delhi’s Lalita Park had claimed over 65 lives.
He said that a blame game leads nowhere and the BJP-led government led by Rekha Gupta is committed to taking firm action. He said the Chief Minister has suspended five MCD officials and ordered sealing of illegal fifth floors.
“We are going to set the system right. The Delhi government is sensitive and working on the ground,” he said.
Earlier on Sunday, Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra expressed deep sorrow over the building accident in Satya Niketan and said that the Central Government, Delhi Government and Municipal Corporation of Delhi are all standing with the victim families in their hour of immense and unbearable grief.
At this moment, our first priority is to rescue those trapped under the debris and take them for medical treatment. Immediately thereafter, an investigation into the accident will be conducted. This was an occupied building, and it is essential to understand the exact cause of the accident.
Malhotra said that if any department is found responsible or negligent during the investigation, strict action will be taken against every officer and engineer found to be involved.
