SYDNEY, SEPTEMBER 22/INDIAN ABROAD NEWSDESK
The Consulate General of India, Sydney, and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Sydney, partnered with IABBV Hindi School to celebrate Hindi Divas 2026.
The celebration featured cultural performances, including musical presentations, a Hindi skit carrying a social message, and energetic student showcases. The event also highlighted a Rajasthani Ghoomar folk dance, a classical Odissi performance, a colourful Bollywood dance, and a lively Bhangra finale where students and guests joined together in celebration.
Niravkumar Sutariya, Head of Chancery and Acting Director of SVCC at the Consulate General of India in Sydney, addressed the gathering, highlighting how language learning strengthens cultural identity and fosters social impact. He also presented awards for excellence and outstanding effort in Hindi.
The morning further featured recitations by winners of the IABBV and Vimla Luthra Hindi Poetry Recitation Competition, honouring young voices and their creative expression.
Dignitaries in attendance included Rose Jackson MLC, Mark Hodges MP, Damien Tudehope MLC, Alister Henskens SC MP, Phillip Ruddock AO, Julia Finn MP, Cr. Warren Waddell, Councillor Sreeni Pillamarri, Michelle Webster (CAIR), Inspector Craig Unger, senior representatives from the New South Wales Department of Education.
The event saw the presence of over 300 community members, students, parents, and dignitaries, reflecting the strong support for Hindi language learning and cultural engagement in Sydney.
