High Commissioner of India to Australia Nagesh Singh met Victoria premier Jacinta Allan to discuss expanding cooperation between India and the Australian state across trade, education, innovation, skills, culture and diaspora engagement.
According to the High Commission of India in Canberra, the meeting underscored the growing importance of Victoria in India’s engagement with Australia and explored opportunities to further strengthen institutional, economic and community partnerships under the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
According to the Victorian Government, Victoria shares deep and long-standing links with India, supported by one of Australia’s largest Indian diaspora communities, extensive educational collaborations and growing trade and investment. India is also among Victoria’s key international partners in higher education, technology, research and advanced manufacturing.
The discussions reflected the increasing momentum in India-Victoria relations following recent high-level engagements and the implementation of the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA), which has created new opportunities for businesses, educational institutions and investors in both countries, according to official information from the Australian and Indian governments.
According to the High Commission, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to building stronger India-Victoria ties by promoting greater collaboration across priority sectors and enhancing people-to-people connections, recognising that closer cooperation would contribute to shared economic growth and reinforce the broader India-Australia partnership.
