A special dinner was hosted in Melbourne to recognise the contributions of Amitabh Mattoo, Founding Director of the Australia India Institute, for his longstanding role in strengthening academic and strategic engagement between India and Australia.
The event was hosted by the Institute’s CEO, Lisa Singh, who acknowledged Prof Mattoo’s leadership over many years and his continued association with the Institute as a Distinguished Fellow.
Speakers at the gathering highlighted Prof Mattoo’s contribution to advancing dialogue, research, and collaboration between the two countries, particularly through academic and policy platforms.
Among those present was Tim Watts, along with representatives from the Consulate General of India, Melbourne, who shared insights on the evolving India–Australia partnership.
The evening underscored the importance of institutional engagement in strengthening bilateral ties, with participants noting the growing depth of cooperation across education, research, and strategic affairs.
The Australia India Institute, based at the University of Melbourne, has played a key role in fostering connections between scholars, policymakers, and industry leaders from both countries.
