SYDNEY, June 12 / INDIAN ABROAD NEWSDESK
The Consulate General of India in Sydney and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), with the support of the Ministry of AYUSH and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), have announced a major community yoga event at Parramatta Square as part of celebrations leading up to the 12th International Day of Yoga.
The outdoor gathering, scheduled for June 20, is being organised in association with the Hindu Federation of Australia, the Australasian Association of Ayurveda, Nature Care Ayurveda, Mita Yoga & Meditation and Sydney Connexions.
The event will take place from 1 pm to 3 pm at Parramatta Square’s Zone 8 and is expected to attract yoga practitioners, community members and wellness enthusiasts from across Sydney.
Organisers have described the programme as an opportunity for participants to experience yoga in a vibrant community setting while embracing the principles of physical wellbeing, mindfulness and inner balance.
The gathering forms part of a broader series of activities being held across Australia ahead of International Day of Yoga on June 21, which this year is being observed under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”
Participants will be invited to engage in yoga practices, breathing exercises and meditation sessions designed to promote health, relaxation and overall wellbeing.
According to organisers, the event will celebrate the enduring wisdom of yoga and its ability to bring people together through a shared commitment to healthy living and personal growth.
The programme aims to showcase yoga as a holistic discipline that supports physical vitality, mental wellness and community harmony, regardless of age or background.
Community members interested in attending have been encouraged to register in advance and join what organisers describe as a dynamic celebration of movement, mindfulness and collective wellbeing.
The Parramatta event is expected to be one of several large-scale community activities marking International Day of Yoga 2026 across New South Wales and South Australia.
