The Consulate General of India in Sydney and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), Sydney, with the support of the Ministry of AYUSH and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), have announced a series of yoga sessions across New South Wales (NSW) and South Australia (SA) as part of celebrations for the 12th International Day of Yoga.
The initiative aims to bring communities together through yoga and promote the values of health, harmony and wellbeing ahead of the global observance on June 21.
Residents across both states have been encouraged to locate their nearest venue and participate in the sessions, which will offer opportunities to stretch, breathe, meditate, relax and experience the benefits of yoga in a community setting.
Organisers said the programme is designed to make yoga accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds while fostering a spirit of togetherness and healthy living.
The celebrations form part of nationwide efforts to mark the International Day of Yoga, which is observed annually around the world following its adoption by the United Nations in 2014.
This year’s observance is being held under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, highlighting the role of yoga in supporting physical vitality, mental wellness and quality of life throughout different stages of life.
The Consulate General and SVCC Sydney said the upcoming sessions would provide participants with an opportunity to experience the holistic benefits of yoga while connecting with others in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Community members are expected to join the events across multiple locations in New South Wales and South Australia, reflecting the growing popularity of yoga throughout Australia.
Organisers described the celebrations as an invitation to embrace wellness, mindfulness and harmony, while reinforcing yoga’s enduring relevance in contemporary society.
A day dedicated to health, balance and community spirit awaits participants as preparations continue for International Day of Yoga 2026.
