The Consulate General of India in Sydney, in collaboration with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre and Brahma Kumaris Australia, organised a special International Day of Yoga 2026 programme titled “Beyond the Mat” at Five Dock, New South Wales.
According to the Consulate General of India in Sydney, the event was held with the support of the Ministry of AYUSH and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations as part of this year’s International Day of Yoga celebrations.
The programme featured gentle asanas, breathing exercises, Hatha Yoga, guided pranayama and Raja Yoga meditation, alongside discussions on holistic wellbeing. Experts also shared insights on Ayurveda and traditional medicine, encouraging participants to view yoga as a comprehensive approach to health and wellness.
The event included an address by Niravkumar B. Sutariya, Consul and Acting Director of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, who highlighted the significance of this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” and emphasised yoga’s role in promoting balance, resilience and wellbeing throughout life.
According to the Consulate, the programme reinforced the message that yoga extends beyond physical exercise and supports mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing while strengthening community engagement.
