Jammu, Sep 9 (IANS) Two persons were arrested in J&K’s Poonch district on Wednesday for allegedly raping a Class 7 student, officials said.
Officials said that the Class 7 student was allegedly raped by a taxi driver and his friend in Poonch.
“Both accused have been arrested and booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those pertaining to gangrape, kidnapping and wrongful confinement, as well as under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,” an official said.
According to officials, the student’s father filed a complaint at Gursai police station on Wednesday afternoon, claiming that his daughter, while returning home, boarded a taxi driven by Zahoor Mushtaq alias Sonu, who took her to his house along with his friend Mohd Irfan on September 6.
“The accused allegedly kept the girl in captivity for three days and raped her repeatedly. Acting swiftly, the police arrested both the accused and further investigation is on,” the official said.
The alleged rape of the Class 7 student has caused anger, grief, and fear among the people living in the border district.
The incident has occurred while the people in Kishtwar district are still unable to recover from the shock of a 15-year-old girl being raped by a school teacher in the Chatroo area.
The girl later died at the hands of unqualified criminals, who tried to terminate her pregnancy. Police in Kishtwar had already arrested seven persons reportedly involved in the heinous crime. The authorities have transferred the investigation of the case to the Crime Branch.
The Crime Branch has arrested the 10th accused in the rape-death case following the transfer of the high-profile investigation from the local police.
Investigations have revealed that school teacher Khalid Hussain repeatedly sexually assaulted the minor over several months, resulting in the pregnancy. Hussain and his brother Tariq Hussain allegedly conspired to administer medicines to terminate the pregnancy, leading to the victim’s death.
