Uncle, nephew stabbed to death in Bihar’s Khagaria; three detained

Patna, Sep 4 (IANS) An uncle and his nephew were allegedly stabbed to death following a dispute over a financial transaction in Bihar’s Khagaria district, police said on Friday. Three persons have been detained for questioning in connection with the incident.

The victims were identified as Gaurav Kumar (23) and Ankur Kumar (22), residents of Khajraitha village under Bharatkhand police station limits. Gaurav was Ankur’s maternal uncle.

According to family members, the two families had an ongoing dispute with fellow villager Pankaj Chaudhary over a financial transaction. A verbal altercation took place between the two sides on Thursday morning, following which a village panchayat was convened to resolve the matter.

The dispute appeared to have been settled after the meeting. However, family members alleged that the dispute resurfaced later in the evening, leading to the stabbing in which Gaurav and Ankur sustained critical injuries.

After being informed about the incident, family members rushed the two men to the Parbatta Community Health Centre. Following initial treatment, doctors referred them to Begusarai for advanced medical care due to their critical condition.

The family was taking the injured persons to Begusarai when Ankur died en route. Gaurav also succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.

The deaths plunged both families into grief. Gaurav was the only son of his parents.

Following the incident, police detained Pankaj Chaudhary, his wife and their son. The three are being questioned as part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing and their alleged roles in the incident.

Bharatkhand SHO Savitri Kumari said three people had been taken into custody and were being interrogated. “Police took possession of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examinations before handing them over to the respective families,” she said.

Security and police surveillance have been intensified in the village in view of the situation. Police are investigating the dispute and other circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Parbatta LJP MLA Babulal Shaurya visited Sadar Hospital after learning about the deaths. Expressing grief over the incident, he condemned the killings and urged the administration to conduct a thorough investigation.

The MLA said it was unfortunate that two young men had lost their lives over what appeared to be a minor dispute. He also called for adequate security and necessary assistance for the bereaved families.
